How to design an Advisory Board that leads to action

The greatest value comes from a well-led discussion and an honest synthesis, not another presentation.

Begin with the decision

Describe the decision the organisation needs to make and the evidence or experience missing from it. This shapes the participants, materials and questions.

Prepare without steering

Experts need shared context, but briefing materials must not suggest the conclusion. Good facilitation explores disagreement and asks what sits behind it.

Write for the next reader

A useful summary separates observations, evidence, recommendations and open questions. It should help a colleague who was not in the room understand what can safely happen next.
